Current Development Applications of Concern
Joseph Street / Weeroona Road
Lidcombe

Suburb: Lidcombe
Address: Joseph Street / Weeroona Road  (Former Lidcombe Hospital site)
Application No: DA572/02 MASTERPLAN
Status: Development approved by Land & Environment Court. Under construction.
Description: Following the Land & Environment Court judgement, a compromise has been reached over this development, which will see several of the heritage buildings retained.

Our concerns include: The sympathetic use of the historical buildings is essential. Despite the vast size of the site, there appears to be insufficient private open space provided.
A HISTORIC SITE

Plaque mounted on the Gatehouse.
"In 1879, 1340 acres of land were acquired for a proposed Home for delinquent boys. In 1893, depressed economic conditions saw its annexation as the Rookwood Asylum for the Poor Aged and Infirm. In 1906 it became Lidcombe State Hospital and Home, and in 1966 became Lidcombe Hospital, a major regional facility."

The Gatehouse.

Part of the heritage precinct.. there is a ring of these cottages, laid out like a horseshoe.
